The holidays are fast approaching and between your bank account dwindling, trying to think of something to gift your significant other and dreading a day of constant back and forth driving across town; we can all use a little pick me up. Especially of the boozy variety. But why not get an extra dose of spice to go with it.
Jack Frost here should help a little bit with those holiday scaries.
To prep, we're going to need a little extra time for the garnish. I went with candied oranges. To make these candied oranges, you will need to bring a shallow sauce pan of sugar and water to a simmer. You can use simple syrup or simply mix it yourself. Once the liquid is simmering, let the oranges take that plunge for 5-6 minutes. Allow them to cool on a wire rack and sprinkle with some sugar and let them get a bit tacky for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator.
For this recipe I like to use a spiced rum of your choice, real ginger beer for that added kick and Oat milk eggnog, orange bitters and Horror+Struck Hot Sauce Lament Configuration. The oat milk eggnog by Chobani is a great choice and you wont miss the full fat of the regular dairy kind. The choice of glassware is up to you and this can be served over the rocks if you so choose.
The Jack Frost
1/3 cup Chobani Oat Egg Nog
1.5 oz of spiced run
Ginger beer to top off
1 teaspoon of Lament Configuration Hot Sauce
2-3 splashes of Orange Bitters
Fill your shaker with ice, add the rum, egg nog, hot sauce and the orange bitters. Give it a hearty shake and strain into your glass.
Top the glass off with Ginger Beer. I prefer not to have too much. Just enough to give it some carbonation. Top with All spice, your candied orange slice and a cinnamon stick to stir. Enjoy!
